Laura F. Young Endowment
The Laura F. Young Endowment was established to assist Forsyth Tech students who self-identify as Latina/Latino/Latinx, as well as those for whom English is a second language.
Priority Criteria
Highest priority will be given to students who have demonstrated a need for technology that is typically necessary for success in college and in life. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Purchase of a new laptop computer capable of meeting college, job-seeking, and employment needs
• Purchase of new computer accessories (e.g., mice, headphones, backup devices, webcams, speakers, etc.)
• Broadband internet access, ideally hard-wired and suitable for both student and family use
• Alternatively, cellular hotspots for internet access with unlimited data plans
• Software required for academic, technical education, and personal computing activities
• Any specialized hardware, software, or network capabilities required for specific programs of study
• Reasonable repairs and/or hardware/software updates (note: the college provides general helpdesk and device support at no cost to students or scholarship funds)
Secondary Consideration
If funds are available, secondary consideration may be given to other needs of Latina/Latino/Latinx/ESL students, such as:
• Tuition, fees, books, and equipment
• Financial emergencies or ongoing living expenses that could limit a student’s ability to complete their educational objectives
Additional Information
• As long as funds are available, funding will be provided at any time throughout the academic year as student needs are identified. Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by Forsyth Tech Cares Navigators or other college staff responsible for evaluating scholarship applications. Decisions will be made based on the established eligibility criteria.
• Funds for ongoing services (such as broadband access, software subscriptions, etc.) will be committed for a specific time period (six months at a time) and will continue as long as the student remains enrolled and is making satisfactory academic progress, as determined by the Forsyth Tech Cares Navigators.
