Lucent Technologies Pioneers Scholarship

The Lucent Telephone Pioneers are a group of retired employees who worked at one time for Western Electric, AT&T Technologies or Lucent Technologies. The Lucent Telephone Pioneers have a long and proud heritage of support for numerous charitable causes in the community.

During the beginning years at Forsyth Tech, Western Electric relied on the college as the trainer of choice for skilled employees such as machinists, electronic technicians, draftsmen and others. When a special need for unique training was evident, Forsyth Tech was able to respond by developing the training in a timely manner.

When the Lexington Road plant of AT&T (Western Electric) closed due to downsizing, a large percentage of former employees joined the student ranks at Forsyth Tech to acquire the skills needed to make a career change. Due to Forsyth Tech’s efforts on their behalf, the Lucent Telephone Pioneers established this scholarship endowment to enable other members of the community the opportunity that they once received.

The scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are North Carolina residents having at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and who are enrolled in an eligible credit program.
